Redbox Profit Grows as Coinstar Execs Eye More Studio Deals

Redbox kiosks generated income of $58 million (on revenues of $344 million) in the first half of the year compared to $73 million in profit in all of 2008, according to financials from parent Coinstar.

Marvel Profit Dips, But DVD Performs Well

Marvel Entertainment posted a drop in profit for the quarter ended June 30, but it sure wasn’t due to DVD; the company reported its film production segment had operating income of $11.7 million for the quarter, compared to $2.2 million during the same quarter in 2008.

Lionsgate, Paramount License Content for Playback on DivX Devices

Lionsgate Aug. 4 inked a deal with digital media company DivX that allows its content to be securely downloaded via devices such as Blu-ray players, Web-enabled HDTVs and portable media devices that incorporate the San Diego-based company’s video format.
