Redbox Owner Exploring 'Financial Alternatives'

Following a disappointing financial quarter, Redbox corporate parent Outerwall March 14 said it had initiated a process to “explore strategic and financial alternatives” to maximize shareholder value. Translation: The board is looking to sell the company.

PlayStation Vue Goes Nationwide

CBS boss Les Moonves might characterize Sony’s upstart skinny bundle pay-TV service, PlayStation Vue, a failure. But that isn’t stopping Sony from rolling out its alternative streaming service for $10 less ($29.99 for 55 channels) than in previous launches in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco and Miami.

Lionsgate Unveils Comic-Con SVOD Service Name and Logo

Lionsgate and Comic-Con International March 14 announced their joint-venture subscription streaming service, Comic-Con HQ, will roll out free beta access on May 7. The official launch is planned for June, ahead of the annual San Diego Comic-Con International confab in July. The subscription price has not been disclosed.
