21 Nov, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf

DVD rental vending company Redbox's promised expansion continues with new agreements with five grocery store chains nationwide.

The McDonalds Corp.-owned Redbox will launch systems at Albertsons LLC, Chevy Chase, Hannaford Supermarkets, Martin's and Strack N Van Til locations across the country.

“Redbox's unmatched production timeline and consumer awareness continue to fuel demand for Redbox at leading grocery stores nationwide,” said Gregg Kaplan, company CEO. “We are more than an added consumer convenience. Redbox is a tool to drive traffic, a point of difference and an active contributor to our customers' profit streams.”

Redbox did not specify how many additional rental vending machines will be placed at the new partner locations.

The company currently has 1,700 locations nationwide, including more than 900 grocery stores. Redbox kiosk locations have doubled in the last year, according to the company.
