Red Light Is Flashing for KMart's BlueLight.com9 Aug, 2001 By: Hive News
BlueLight.com initiated another round of layoffs Thursday that will likely leave the online retailer with just a "skeleton crew" maintaining the company's Web site for its parent Kmart, according to IDG News.
BlueLight dismissed 50 to 60 workers Thursday, or close to half of the company's staff. The company will continue making layoffs during the next 30 to 45 days, according to IDG, leaving few employees to maintain key financial and technological operations.
BlueLight endured another round of heavy layoffs in May, as the company attempted to pull back on spending and share resources with Kmart. BlueLight then announced last month that Kmart would buy back all outstanding shares of San Francisco-based BlueLight and take full control.
