Actress Rebecca Romijn-Stamos will be awarded Rising Female Star of the Year during the July 14 opening ceremonies at the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA)'s Home Entertainment 2004.
Romijn-Stamos co-stars with Robert De Niro and Greg Kinnear in Lions Gate Films' Godsend and recently had a major role in The Punisher, another Lions Gate Films project that will premiere on DVD Sept. 7. She has also starred in X-Men, X2, Rollerball, and the Brian DePalma-directed thriller Femme Fatale. Her next project is a reprisal of the character Mystique in the third installation of the “X-Men” franchise.
“It's very exciting and appropriate for video retailers to celebrate talent such as Rebecca Romijn-Stamos early in their career,” said VSDA president Bo Andersen. “She is a gifted actress and has demonstrated the ability to handle roles that are emotionally and physically demanding. Our members are not only recognizing her future potential, but her past successes as well. Her films have done very well on home video, and this award provides us the opportunity to thank her on behalf of the industry.”
Recent recipients of the VSDA's Rising Star of the Year award have included Salma Hayek, Matt LeBlanc, Heather Graham, Selma Blair and Ashton Kutcher.
