'The Queen' Coming to DVD in April2 Mar, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Less than a week after Helen Mirren won the best actress Oscar for her performance as Queen Elizabeth in The Queen, Miramax Home Entertainment April 24 will release the six-time nominated film on DVD for $29.99.
Prebook for the Buena Vista Home Entertainment-distributed title is March 13.
The announcement is the first for an Oscar-winning title following the Feb. 25 awards.
The Queen depicts the private world of the British Monarchy in the days following the death of Princess Diana in an automobile crash in 1997.
Bonus material includes featurette “Making of The Queen,” plus feature-length commentary from Oscar-nominated director Stephen Frears (Mrs. Henderson Presents), writer Peter Morgan, and British historian/Royal Expert and author of “Majesty,” Robert Lacey.
In addition to her Oscar win, Mirren (Gosford Park, The Madness of King George) won best actress awards from the Venice Film Festival and The National Board of Review.
The film also stars Michael Sheen (Laws of Attraction) and James Cromwell (“24,” Babe, The Green Mile).
