Q Video, the video distribution arm of home shopping club QVC, has teamed with Warner Vision Japan and Warner Music Group to develop and distribute Major League Baseball content in Japan.
Warner Vision Japan will have exclusive distribution rights to Q Video's Major League Baseball titles in the country, beginning with Rising Sons, a chronicle of six Japanese players in America's favorite sport -- Hideo Nomo, Ichiro Suzuki, Kazuhiro Sasaki, Tsuyoshi Shinjo, Masato Yoshii and Shigetoshi Hasegawa.The deal with Warner Vision stipulates that each year Q Video will create Major League Baseball content specifically for the Japanese market, said Don Spielvogel, director of sales and marketing for Q Video. The titles also will be available in the United States, but will street earlier in Japan and come with a mixture of Japanese dubbing and subtitles.
Rising Sons streeted in Japan April 10 and will be available in the United States May 28.
Spielvogel said the company is getting “a great response” to titles like Rising Sons both in Japan and in America's Pacific Northwest. The Rising Sons DVD boasts 50 minutes of extras, including game footage of the complete last inning of Nomo's April 4, 2001 no-hitter; Sasaki's final-inning save from the July 10, 2001 All-Star game; and footage of Suzuki.
