Price of Samsung's Blu-ray Player Dips27 Dec, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf
With Sony's Blu-ray player finally on the market, there's a post-Christmas price drop on the first Blu-ray machine — Samsung's BD-P1000.
Samsung reduced the MSRP by about $100 on its originally priced $999 player, according to the manufacturer.
That allowed several retailers to offer pricing that puts the player much closer to Toshiba's $500 step-up HD DVD player, just in time for post-holiday shoppers.
California boutique audio/video chain Ken Cranes advertised the Samsung player for $798 the Sunday after Christmas. Both BestBuy.com and CircuitCity.com are selling the player for $799 as well.
Amazon.com's price on the expensive player dropped $330, with the online superstore selling the inaugural Blu-ray hardware at $569.99. Amazon listed the regular sale price for the player at $899.
The Samsung BD-P1000 hit the market in June.
