Presidential Hopeful Edwards Distributes DVDs5 Mar, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel
It might not rival the daily rental DVD shipments by Netflix and Blockbuster Online, but the March 5 mailing of 70,000 DVDs to Iowa households by Democrat presidential candidate John Edwards could probably rate an honorable mention.
Edwards' DVD features the 2004 Democrat vice president candidate (with John Kerry) addressing a crowd of probable Iowa Caucus voters about his plan for universal health care and other campaign issues.
It is considered the first direct-mail effort by any 2008 presidential candidate.
With both the Democrat and Republican parties entering candidates, the Iowa Caucus is one of the first key stops of the 2008 election.
Netflix, which last month announced its billionth DVD mailing (drama Babel) since launching its service in 1999, ships about 1.5 million DVDs per day.
