PorchLight Illuminates Distribution Arm9 Jul, 2007 By: Chris Tribbey
The Entertainment Merchants Association confab will be the coming-out party for at least one company's new home entertainment division.
PorchLight Entertainment, whose productions to this date have been distributed by other suppliers, is going it alone in the fourth quarter, with at least three DVD titles in the pipeline.
“PorchLight Home Entertainment is going to be focused entirely on kids' and family oriented programming,” said Gary Jones, the newly appointed SVP for PorchLight's Home Entertainment division. “PorchLight's intention going forward is to do [DVD] ourselves. Moving into the home entertainment venue was the last step for us.”
The company will lead its home product line with a LeapFrog holiday special, A Tad of Christmas Cheer, a 30-minute animated take on It's A Wonderful Life. This preschool program features the well-known LeapFrog character Tad Frog, as well as his family, friends and fairy god-bug, Edison. The street date is Nov. 13, with a prebook of Oct. 10.
Randy Quaid headlines PorchLight's Nov. 27 release of Treasure Island Kids: The Pirates of Treasure Island, a feature-length, live-action family adventure film. Prebook is Oct. 24.
On Dec. 4, PorchLight will street The Family Holiday, a Christmas comedy starring Dave Coulier (“Full House”). Prebook is Oct. 31, and the 90-minute film will debut on Lifetime Television one week before the DVD street date.
“The Christmas season is what triggered [the DVD announcements],” Jones said. “It just happened to coincide with EMA.”
PorchLight will be set up in suite 3-226 at the show.
