PlayStation, Xbox Tout Successes Entering 2017

The video game industry approaches 2017 facing digital issues not uncommon with packaged media in home entertainment and the music industry. Those challenges are affecting hardware as next-generation consoles Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One reportedly saw software sales eclipsed in 2016 for the first time by mobile gaming.

Sony Pictures Television Bows On-Demand Kids App in the U.K.

Sony Pictures Television Jan. 10 launched an app — dubbed Sony Kids — in the United Kingdom featuring on-demand access and stacking rights to children’s digital channels Pop, Tiny Pop, Pop Girl and Kix. The Sony studio unit operates the channels after acquiring CSC Media Group in 2014.

AT&T Testing 'DirecTV Now' Rollout in 5G

In the first half of the year, AT&T is conducting a trial in Austin, Texas, enabling residential customers to stream online TV service DirecTV Now over a fixed wireless 5G connection. As part of this trial, the telecom is also testing undisclosed next-generation entertainment services over fixed 5G connections.
