Playboy Streaking to Streaming13 Dec, 2001 By: Hive News
Playboy Enterprises will increase its commitment to streaming media to grow its Playboy.com Internet business, chairman and c.e.o. Christie Hefner told an audience at Internet World 2001 today.
Saying that 70 percent of the audience for Playboy TV is couples seeking an adult entertainment experience (not just "a bunch of lonely guys"), Hefner talked about a $20 million project to build a digtal studio to offer live, digital content online as early as next year, Internet.com reported.
Such a project could guarantee original content for the compay's expanding online and international ventures like the German site the company launched a couple of months ago.
While the venture has relied more on paid content for revenue, streaming advertisements could add to the company's bottom line, Hefner told the crowd.
Playboy's strength lies in diversity, she said, as the company reaches distinct audiences with its print, cable and online products.
