Phones to Outnumber Folks23 Aug, 2007 By: Chris Tribbey
It's not that hard to believe: More cell phones than Americans will be active in 2013.
So reads the projections from financial research firm SNL Kagan, released Aug. 23: 84% of the U.S. population, including consumer, business and double users, will have a cell phone by the end of this year, and penetration will move past 100% within six years, according to the report.
SNL Kagan reports that cell phone subscriptions will grow at a rate of 3% per year, compared to an annual population growth of only 1%.
“If carriers can hold onto their position in the revenue chain, data is poised to give them a second growth spurt,” said SNL Kagan senior analyst Sharon Armbrust, pointing to increased use of the Web, video and text messaging on mobile phones.
