Sundance Channel has hired out The Hired Hand.
The supplier will release in theaters a newly restored version of the 1971 Peter Fonda film for theatrical release, and then follow it up on home video from Sundance Channel Home Entertainment in the fourth quarter 2003.
The restored film has made the film festival rounds, with appearances at the 2001 Venice Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival, where it was introduced by Martin Scorsese.
Handling restoration duties were the film's original editor, Frank Mazzola, and Hamish McAlpine of Tartan Films, with Universal Studio's executive director of restoration, Bob O'Neil, acting as advisor.
Sundance Channel is a joint venture between Robert Redford, Showtime Networks Inc. and Universal Studios.
