Pee-wee Pops Up on DVD

10 Jun, 2004 By: Brendan Howard

Let's make a wish. “Meka-leka-hai-meka-hiney-ho … meka-leka-hai-meka-chawnee-ho … meka-leka- …lahba-dabba-blabba- duh-blah.”

Nobody, including Pee-wee Herman, ever could get the words right to the end of the genie Jambi's spell, but it sure was fun trying every Saturday morning on the CBS show “Pee-Wee's Playhouse.”

Now, old and new fans alike will fall for Paul Reubens' insanely energetic grown-up boy Pee-wee and his crazy cast of live-action characters (Miss Yvonne, Cowboy Curtis) and puppets (Chairy, Pterry, Globey) as the show makes its complete DVD debut this fall from Image Entertainment.

The complete 45-episode series — with six episodes never before released on home video — will debut in two boxed sets ($49.99 each) and a separate Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special ($14.99).

Also in the works is a limited edition complete-series boxed set with commentary by Reubens slated for 2005.

“Pee-wee's Playhouse” ran from 1986 to 1991, when it was yanked by CBS after Reubens was arrested for public indecency in a porn theater.
