PCs Harbor Video

1 Jun, 2005 By: Erik Gruenwedel

About 13 percent of functioning Internet-enabled homes have up to 15 video files containing TV programming and movies on their personal computers, according to an ongoing pilot study by The NPD Group.

The number of household computers storing video files of at least 150MB last year was 8 percent, based on data collected voluntarily from an anonymous test group containing 40,000 PCs.

“Some consumer collections include material that is clearly pirated,” said Russ Crupnick, president of The NPD Group's music and movies division.
