PBS is going the Google route for digital downloads of TV shows from the network.
Selected episodes from PBS programs are now available on Google's video service with content from “Antiques Roadshow,” “NOVA,” “Now” and “Scientific American Frontiers,” as well as kids programs “Arthur,” “Cyberchase” and “Fetch!”
It marks the first time PBS shows have shown up in the digital sphere. Each download will include a promotional spot encouraging downloaders to become members of their local PBS station.
The network has gotten a lot of requests for downloadable formats from viewers said PBS president and CEO Paula Kerger, as she announced the deal at the Television Critics Association Press Tour.PBS President and CEO“As we've seen with our podcasts, PBS viewers appreciate the opportunity to consumer PBS and local PBS stations' content when and where they like,” she said.
