Paramount Home Entertainment said it will put together its largest consumer advertising campaign of the year in support of the $120 million box office hit The Sum of All Fears debuting on video Oct. 29.
The espionage thriller, which introduces a missing Russian nuclear warhead headed for the United States in early scenes (and isn't afraid to use it later), stars Ben Affleck and Morgan Freeman and will be priced for rental on VHS, while DVD has a minimum advertised price of $19.95. Preorder date for the DVD is Sept.17, and for the cassette is Oct. 7.
The DVD will be presented in widescreen format with Dolby Digital English 5.1 sound. Extras on the disc include commentaries by director Phil Alden Robinson, cinematographer John Lindley and novelist Tom Clancy on whose novel of the same name the film is based. Two featurettes on the making of the film and its visual effects, and the theatrical trailer are also included on the DVD.
Paramount will deploy a major marketing campaign including national network and cable TV, national magazine print ads and an online marketing component.
