Paramount Names Suzuki Head of Japanese Home Entertainment17 Sep, 2007 By: Thomas K. Arnold
Former Blockbuster Japan chief Junichiro Suzuki has been appointed president of Paramount Pictures' Japanese home entertainment division. In his new capacity as president, home entertainment, Paramount KK, Japan, Suzuki will be responsible for overseeing sales, marketing and distribution in the Japanese market. He reports directly to Dennis Maguire, president, Paramount Home Entertainment, International (PHEI).
Suzuki joins PHEI from NPD Japan Ltd., where he served as president and representative director. He previously held the same post at Fedex Kinko's Japan Co., where he realigned the organization, taking it from annual losses of $3 million to annual profits of $3 million.
Before that, Suzuki was president of Blockbuster Japan Co. from 1995 to 1997. During his tenure, he increased the number of stores from 16 to 45, with total annual sales of 3.5 billion yen. Suzuki reorganized the business to increase its efficiency and introduced new store operations and marketing methods, updating information systems, purchasing, finance and accounting.
Suzuki previously served as director of sales for Warner Home Video in Japan, leading the introduction of sellthrough video.
Lauding Suzuki's “decades of stellar management experience with leading international companies operating in Japan,” Maguire said the executive's “understanding of the home entertainment marketplace and his track record of success will be an enormous asset to PHEI moving forward.”
