Papa John's Offers DVDs With Pizza

30 Apr, 2004 By: Holly J. Wagner

Papa John's will launch a “Pizza and Entertainment” campaign May 3, offering customers one of three DVDs with the purchase of a large pizza at the regular menu price.

The promotion is paired with a new advertising campaign showcasing opera singers announcing, “Papa John's makes movies taste so good!”

The promotion and advertising campaign are integral parts of a new marketing strategy for Papa John's, which, coincidentally, is one of the most successful purveyors of EZ-D disposable discs in the eight markets in which they are available.

The foundation of the strategy features a commitment to new product news, taking advantage of Papa John's positive experience with new product introductions in the past two years. Papa John's will supplement its new offerings with entertainment premiums intended to give customers even more value for their money.

Beginning Monday, customers purchasing any large pizza at regular menu price from participating Papa John's restaurants will be offered one of three DVD movies to choose from: Artisan's Weekend at Bernie's, starring Jonathan Silverman and Andrew McCarthy; New Line Home Entertainment's Don Juan DeMarco, starring Johnny Depp, Marlon Brando and Faye Dunaway; or New Line's Trial and Error starring Jeff Daniels, Rip Torn, Michael Richards and Charlize Theron.

A two-week national TV campaign highlighting the promotion begins May 5 with local television and dedicated print media starting May 3. The DVD promotion is also offered to customers ordering Papa John's pizza online at www.papajohns.com. Future titles will be made available along with Papa John's product offerings.

Last June, Pizza Hut, in connection with the release of Agent Cody Banks, offered a choice of four MGM titles to customers ordering a large pizza at menu price. The discs included about 20 minutes of promos for other MGM titles.
