Online Game Rental Service Launched16 Nov, 2002 By: Kurt Indvik
Online video game subscription rental service Gamefly (gamefly.com) opened its cyberdoors several weeks ago and is offering a wide selection of new releases and catalog titles for rent for PS2, Xbox and GameCube platforms.
A spokesman declined comment in an e-mail, saying, "we're completely focused on taking care of our customers.”
For $21.95 per month, Gamefly customers can rent two video games at a time for unlimited play with no late fees or due dates, including free delivery and free returns. Like other online rental systems, customers build their list of desired games in order of preference and the system delivers the games as they are available when the gamer sends back the current games rented.
The site also offers a purchase option for gamers who want to keep the game they just rented, paying a previously played price when available. Customers can read reviews of each title available, see the box art and check out the service's customer ratings for that game.
