Noah 'Noah' Floats to Top of Disc Sales and Rental Charts

Paramount's 'Noah,' director Darren Aronofsky's retelling of the biblical Noah's Ark tale, debuted on top of the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, which tracks overall combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, as well as its dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart for the week ended Aug. 3.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Offsets Soft Theatrical Results

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Aug. 6 reported a near 27% increase in second-quarter (ended June 30) revenue to $563 million from home video and digital distribution of theatrical movies, compared with $444 million during the prior-year period. Through the first half of the year, the home entertainment studio has generated almost $1 billion ($945 million) in revenue selling movies, which is up 5% from a year ago.

X-Men: Days of Future Past Theatrical a Fiscal Juggernaut for Fox

21st Century Fox Aug. 6 said its 20th Century Fox Studios nearly tripled fourth-quarter (ended June 30) operating income of $339 million, from $117 million during the prior-year period. In doing so, the studio, which includes 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, continues to successfully negate a sluggish box office that has heretofore undermined other studios.
