Nielsen to Measure VOD Usage8 Dec, 2006 By: John Latchem
Nielsen Media Research Dec. 11 launches a new service to measure nationally distributed video-on-demand (VOD) content. The service will be based on the same National People Meter sample used to provide television ratings.
Clients will receive household and demographic ratings for VOD content along with other detailed audience information. The service will allow comparisons between programs airing on traditional channels and the VOD performance of those same shows.
Nielsen has worked with clients to develop a watermark to better track programs watched on demand.
New broadcast and cable network programming that is played back via VOD is already included in Nielsen's time-shifted viewing ratings, but only if the programming content and advertising is the same as the original telecast.
