The next generation of home video technology and retailing will be up for discussion during the Video Software Dealers Association's Home Entertainment 2003, July 29 – 31 at the Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino in Las Vegas.
A track of seminars under the heading “The Present & The Future” will explore video-on-demand, high-definition DVD and the use of such retail technologies as video vending machines and online retail services.
“The Screening Room: What Retailers Should Know About Home Theater Technology” will include discussion about high-definition TV and DVD, including the review of next generation blue laser technologies such as Advanced Optical Disc and Blu-ray and red-laser high definition options from Windows Media 9 and Pixonics. One session, titled “The Digital Domain: An Overview of the Digital World Today & Tomorrow,” will be devoted entirely to VOD and will include speakers from Starz Encore Group, CinemaNow and iN Demand, among others. “The Latest Concepts in Video Retailing” will look at the aforementioned vending machines and online retail strategies as well as other high-tech advances in video retailing such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID).
Other tracks include “The Basics of Video Retailing,” covering a broad spectrum of retail operationsl issues; “Keeping Your Business Healthy,” which looks at new trends in marketing and merchandising; and “Growing Your Business,” which covers growing product lines such as the adult, video games, music video and others.
Executives from eBay will also lead retailers through “eBay University” where they can gain better insight into using eBay's auction systems to sell product.
