Nexpak Unveils DVD Packaging With Locking Mechanism

17 Aug, 2004 By: Jessica Wolf

Nexpak this week unveiled a security DVD packaging designed specifically for the DVD rental market.

The packaging, dubbed the Benefit Denial System, features a red-colored locking hub mechanism that must be removed at the point of checkout — like the weighted plastic tags used on clothing.

The locked hub can only be removed with a special magnetic detachment key. The only way to get the disc out otherwise would result in the destruction of the disc — which defeats the purpose of the theft, the company noted in a statement.

The Benefit Denial System is available in Nexpak's Securecase or Amaray II packaging styles.
