New 'Barbie' Video Sparks Revamped Toy Line

18 Sep, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf

Barbie's back, and this time she's dancing.

Accompanying Barbie's sixth full-length movie, 12 Dancing Princesses, which arrived on DVD Sept. 19 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment, is a new toy line from Mattel.

The toys are paired to the movie's ballet theme. Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses marks the third time Mattel has teamed with the New York City Ballet to choreograph a “Barbie” movie.

Barbie stars as Princess Genevieve, and the corresponding $24.99 doll will be on shelves for the holiday season.

A more elaborate 15-inch “Let's Dance” Barbie doll ($54.99) can dance with her owner via two wristbands controlled by an infrared signal and one ankle bracelet that works with a radio frequency.

Mattel will also release the $29.99 12 Dancing Princesses Interactive Dance Mat, which allows girls to learn ballet and ballroom dance using their television set and the plug-in mat.
