ON Networks, a new media company that develops original short-form content, is offering 10 new programs on iTunes for free download, specifically designed for the iPhone.

ON Networks' remastering of its content involved altering it for the iPhone's screen, which has an aspect ratio of 16:9 when held horizontally, and giving it a higher resolution than for the video iPod.

“With the iPhone and the growing popularity of Web video, digital video recorders, IPTV and gaming devices, consumers are clearly living in an on-demand, opt-in content world that gives them infinite choice and flexibility,” said Kip McClanahan, ON Networks' CEO. “By making our shows available via the Internet, iTunes and other new services, we are delivering compelling content to consumers in whatever manner best suits their lifestyles.”

Some of the shows, available as podcasts on the iTunes music store include instructive videos “Cocktails on the Fly,” “Zen Living,” “ON Dating,” “Comedy Insider,” “Golf Tips” and the music-and-food concoction, “Dinner with the Band.”

As of July 2, Apple had sold about 525,000 iPhones at Apple and AT&T Inc. stores since its June 29 launch, according to the Los Angeles Times, which cited analyst Trip Chowdhry of Global Equities Research in San Francisco. Chowdhry said half of West Coast Apple stores sold out of iPhones on the first day.
