Netflix Customizes Movie Trailers for Users

31 Aug, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf

Netflix.com Thursday launched a new feature on its online rental service — personalized movie trailers.

The site's new “Previews” section gathers all the movie trailers available for streamed viewing on one specific page. Users can click on it and see a looped segment of trailers that are sorted based on the user's rental and movie rating history — a process enabled by Netflix's proprietary recommendation software.

Members can add movies to their queue directly from the Previews page.

“[It's] like every viewer in a movie theater seeing a different series of trailers based on their personal taste,” said Neil Hunt, Netflix chief product officer. “This unmatched, highly personalized selection makes it even easier for Netflix members to discover movies they'll love.”

Currently there are about 1,000 trailers included on the site's Preview page. Netflix plans to increase that number to 5,000-10,000 by the end of the year.
