Handleman Co. grabbed the 2002 Large Wholesaler of the Year Award from the National Association of Recording Merchandisers (NARM) at the association's 44th annual convention in San Francisco.

"Handleman Co. is honored to be recognized as a leader in the music industry by its peers. "Over the past several years the Company has continued to drive sales and marketing within the music industry," said Gerry Lopez, SVP of the company and president of Handleman Entertainment Resources. "Thanks to our people, supported by our proprietary category management systems, our retail customers managed to gain market share and grow the overall music business even in these difficult times. I am proud to accept this award on behalf of all Handleman Company employees and look forward to continued success in the months ahead."

NARM president Pam Horovitz said the award honors.

"The criteria are broad-based, and the industry judges are tough on candidates," she said. "It is a tribute to Handleman's continuing role as an integral part of the music industry supply chain that so many of their peers recognize their excellence."
