Movielink, Target Offer '300' Promo31 Jul, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel
The two-disc deluxe edition of 300 is available at Target.
Seeking to cross-pollinate marketing efforts for the July 31 release of 300 from Warner Home Video, download service Movielink is offering users a free PC download of the action movie if they buy a deluxe DVD edition at Target stores for $24.99.
The download, which includes a 22-minute special “Making of 300” not found on the DVD, is available separately with a special code number from Target for $14.99.
Co-op efforts by the studios, retailers and Web-based electronic services have increased, underscored last week by the $5 DVD coupon redeemable at Trans World Entertainment's FYE stores on the download purchase of Hellboy Animated: Sword of Storms from Vongo.
Dubbed the “Double Power of 300,” the co-promotion by Movielink and Target was quietly promoted via e-mail to Movielink users and at retail through in-store banners.
Finding the deluxe DVD edition at a Target, however, could prove challenging, as most locations had sold out prior to the release, according to several store managers contacted.
“I've had several people ask me today for the [deluxe] DVD since I got here,” said an electronics manager at a Target in Foothill Ranch, Calif.
“I've told them we have the full screen and widescreen versions available,” said the manager. “We've got tons of those.”
The Target exclusive edition was offered at a discounted price of $22.99 upon its initial release.
