Movielink Adds Shorts, Foreign Films

31 Mar, 2003 By: Hive News

Internet video-on-demand (VOD) service Movielink has signed content deals with Hypnotic and several foreign film distributors to provide short films and foreign films for download.

"Hypnotic's extensive catalog of acclaimed shorts will make a great addition to the existing content on our service," said Movielink CEO Jim Ramo. "We believe short films will have a unique appeal to our users -- who are specifically requesting independent, irreverent, edgy titles."

Hypnotic will supply Movielink with genre-specific compilations of short films each month. The initial offering for April includes nine themed groupings including a Movielink-exclusive viewing of the 2001 Academy Award winner for Best Short Film -- Live Action, "The Accountant." Rounding out the April 2003 collection are comedy, horror, sci-fi, festival staples, extreme, foreign and romance-themed sets. Martin Sheen, Alice Cooper, Mel Gibson, and Jill Hennessey are a sampling of the talent appearing throughout the April series.

Cinema Service, Meiah, Raintree, and Eros Multimedia will supply Movielink with Korean, Hong Kong Chinese, and Indian films, respectively.

"When we set out to create a foreign film section on the service, we wanted to bring the best of foreign filmmaking to the Movielink service and create a new U.S. distribution channel for foreign films," continued Ramo. "Cinema Service, Meiah, Raintree and Eros Multimedia are leading, worldwide distributors of Korean, Chinese, and Indian films and we are excited to have these new partners on board."

Movielink download prices range between $2.95 and $4.99.
