MovieFlix Claims 2.5M Members13 Nov, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel
MovieFlix, the online site that allows users to stream movies to their desktop via RealPlayer or Windows Media Player, Nov. 13 said it has reached 2.5 million registered members.
The Los Angeles-based service, founded in 1998, offers members access to more than 4,000 titles for $7.95 per month.
Movie selections, which are not available as rental downloads or electronic sellthrough, represent largely vintage catalog fare, documentaries, westerns, action and adult.
“This niche market has proven to be larger than expected and our members tend to be real movie buffs who are extremely loyal,” said Opher Mizrahi, co-founder and CEO of MovieFlix.
Last month, the site screened 13-days of horror films, including The Terror, with Boris Karloff, and Little Shop of Horrors, with Jack Nicholson.
