Movie-Themed Games Are Hot

More than two-thirds of video game consumers (67%) are more likely to buy or rent video games if they have a tie-in with a movie, according to online marketing firm New Media Strategies (NMS).

Nearly a quarter (22%) of online gaming consumers said they would buy a game based on a film even before ever seeing the film in theaters.

"The ties between Hollywood and the gaming industry are deepening for a reason," said NMS CEO Pete Snyder. "The excitement and hype factor of Hollywood buzz undoubtedly helps to sell more games."

This impact is apparent at both the box office and at retail, as film-inspired games such as X-Men, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, James Bond and Spider-Man have all become sure-fire hits with video game consumers.

"Any divorce lawyer will tell you the terms 'Hollywood' and 'stable relationship' rarely go together. That said, we expect the ties between Tinsletown and the video game industry to be a stable, highly-profitable marriage for years to come," said Snyder.
