Movie Gallery Helps Young Filmmakers1 May, 2003 By: Joan Villa
The Movie Gallery-backed Jay Sanders Film Festival at Auburn University awarded college and high school students $3,700 in prizes and gave the young filmmakers valuable exposure for their films, according to Movie Gallery sales and marketing SVP Ted Innes. “Students enjoy winning the cash prizes, but the real benefit of the competition is that their videos are judged by professional filmmakers,” he said. The first-place $1,000 award in the college division went to Kristin Solid, a student at University of California, Los Angeles, for her animated film Match Scratch Fever. In the high school division, Tanner Beard of Snyder, Texas, took first place with his 11-minute video Knock Over. Movie Gallery, the Auburn Film Society and the Department of Communication and Journalism at Auburn University sponsor the annual competition.
