SAN DIEGO — Fans of the hilarious “Spider Pig” character from The Simpsons Movie may be able to catch even more Spider Pig in the film's DVD.

A panel including “Simpsons” creator Matt Groening came to the 2007 International Comic-Con to discuss the film, out in theaters from 20th Century Fox. The Spider Pig character, featured in the film's trailer, appears in another late scene that was cut from the film, and may make it onto the DVD, according to panelists.

The panel, which included longtime “Simpsons” writers as well as Yeardley Smith, the voice of Lisa, even sang the Spider Pig theme song in celebration of the character (“Can he swing from a web? No he can't, he's a pig.”) Panelists said they already had completed a DVD commentary for the film, although exactly who will appear on it is uncertain.

One deleted scene previewed at the panel, which may appear on the DVD, was, according to “Simpsons” writer Al Jean, “every movie writer's favorite scene that wasn't in the film.” The scene consists of Homer hitching a ride from a Sausage truck — and the trucker's horrified response at finding his cargo eaten.

Panelists also expressed frustration over syndication cuts of the “Simpsons,” saying they sometimes butcher episodes so badly that Homer almost seems like an acceptable father in them.

“There are the DVDs, and they are uncut,” Groening said.

The Simpsons: The Complete Tenth Season is out Aug. 7, from Fox. Fans can pore over the first 10 seasons of the show on DVD to catch what Groening calls the movie's “sneaky details that only the most devoted fans are going to get.”

Additionally, a Simpsons Movie video game is on its way this fall, featuring video game parodies such as “Grand Theft Scratchy.” The Simpsons Game will street at the same time as the DVD, according to gamesnews.virgin.net.
