Mill Creek Enters Latino Market

7 Mar, 2008 By: Angelique Flores

Mill Creek Entertainment has launched a new label, La Fábrica de Entretenimiento (The Entertainment Factory), marking the company's first foray into the Latino DVD market.

The DVD line will feature Spanish-language product, mostly from Mexico, said Jeff Hayne, Mill Creek's director of content acquisition. The majority of the product is from Venevision's library and will consist of contemporary and classic films, television programming, historical documentaries and direct-to-DVD feature films.

Mill Creek is packaging multiple titles together in boxed sets to be sold for $14.98 each. Many of these films are classics from the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema and star such legends as Luis Aguilar and Pedro Armendáriz.

The first two sets from the new label, “Comedia Tesoros” and “La Coleccion Ranchera,” are available now. “Las Mejores Rancheras” and “Los Mejores Comedias” will street May 6. Each set features five films on a two-disc set for $14.98 each.

Hayne said Mill Creek is looking to acquire more Latino product for La Fábrica de Entretenemiento.

“We see [the Latino DVD market] as one of the very few rapidly increasing marketplaces,” Hayne said. “There's an opportunity for expansion; we're just at the beginning.”
