Microsoft Touts PC-to-TV Evolution

6 Sep, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Microsoft Corp. said this holiday season a number of third-party consumer electronics devices incorporating the upgraded Windows Media Center will allow for the transportation of content from the Internet to the TV in the home.

The so-called extender devices, which will be unveiled later this month, were announced last week at the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) Expo in Denver.

The new extenders will be available in a variety of devices, including set-top boxes and DVD players, according to Microsoft.

“The new extenders make it easy to get a wide range of personal and Internet content not only on someone's main TV, but on all the TVs in the house,” said Dave Alles, GM for eHome at Microsoft.
