Microsoft Corp. and the New York Television Festival (NYTVF) are turning to fans to create the first original series developed specifically for the Xbox Live online gaming and entertainment network.
Aspiring television producers can submit a five- to 15-minute comedy pilot episode to the Xbox Live Originals contest for a chance to win a $100,000 budget and a six-episode commitment to air the series on Xbox Live.
Submissions will be accepted through June 29 from contestants in any of the 25 countries currently supporting Xbox Live. A group of selected finalists will be shown on Xbox Live Marketplace's video-on-demand service in July, and a winner will be announced at the end of the month.
The winning pilot will debut this fall at the third annual NYTVF, a showcase for indie television.
This marks the first time user-generated content will be available for download exclusively on Xbox Live, which has more than 6 million subscribers worldwide.Official rules are available at newyorktelevisionfestival.com.
