MGM will license its classic and recent films to broadband video-on-demand (VOD) provider Intertainer, the companies announced today.

Effective immediately, Intertainer's Internet Protocol (IP) service will showcase many of MGM's new releases, as well as a selection from its 4,100-title film library, which boasts 14 "Best Picture" Oscar winners, the Rocky film series, numerous Woody Allen favorites, as well as hundreds of celebrated classic titles including Some Like It Hot and The Terminator.

"As a former movie producer and true aficionado, I'm thrilled to be able to offer our subscribers access to MGM's quality new releases and seminal classics," said Intertainer CEO Jonathan Taplin. "Adding MGM to our roster of A-list content partners ensures that Intertainer's content offering will continue to be the best in the business."

"MGM is always looking for new ways to build audiences for our new and classic library films. As part of that commitment, we often embrace new technologies early in their lifecycle in order to gain insights about consumer behavior and to maintain our competitive edge," said David Bishop, president and COO -- MGM Home Entertainment. "Intertainer is a leader and innovator in video-on-demand delivery and thus an ideal partner for MGM in this arena."

Intertainer's IP VOD service recently launched in the nation's top 35 broadband markets, giving consumers instant access to movies, music and television. In addition, Intertainer has long been a pioneer in the digital cable VOD space, securing deployments with leading cable operators Adelphia Communications and Comcast.
