Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.'s MGM Networks has entered into an agreement with Multichoice Hellas' NOVA, the first digital satellite platform in Greece, to launch a round-the-clock, MGM-branded channel in the country.
The channel will be customized for the market to include Greek subtitles, said MGM Networks EVP Bruce Tuchman.
"Launching a branded channel in Greece marks yet another achievement in MGM Network's recent expansion into Europe, which began earlier this year with successful channel launches in Portugal, Russia and Malta,” Tuchman said. “We look forward to capitalizing on emerging opportunities for MGM Networks in this vital market and in other potential markets in the future."
The MGM Movie Channel plans to present round-the-clock offerings from MGM's 4,000-title library, including Annie Hall, Bull Durham, The Fortune Cookie, Last Tango in Paris, The Manchurian Candidate, Midnight Cowboy, The Misfits, Moonstruck, Network, Paths of Glory and The Pink Panther. The channel is expected to launch in the near future, subject to the approvals of relevant regulatory authorities.
MGM's movie channel in Greece will join its growing stable of worldwide network interests in more than 40 countries, including branded channels in Latin America, Europe, India, Israel, Turkey and New Zealand, the Middle East and South Korea, which launched earlier this year. Since the beginning of 2002, MGM has nearly doubled the number of territories in which it has established a channel presence to date.
