As expected, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Home Entertainment Group (HEG) is assuming greater theatrical control overseas following the realignment of MGM's international theatrical distribution (ITD) unit under David Bishop, president of HEG.Ian Sutherland, SVP of ITD, now reports to Bishop in Los Angeles.
A year ago, HEG assumed full control of international home video operations in several key territories, including Australia, France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
In a separate deal, HEG and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment have distribution agreements for other parts of Europe.
“This new approach will allow us to better integrate and coordinate our overseas marketing and distribution decisions, for both theatrical and home-entertainment releases,” Bishop said. “It's a smart way to maximize the return on our spending in a fast-evolving and challenging group of overseas markets.
