MGM Home Entertainment Group has expanded its sales and marketing operations into western Europe, adding France and Germany to the company's operations in the United Kingdom.
20th Century Fox Filmed Entertainment, which previously managed those regions as part of an ongoing international distribution services agreement with MGM, will continue to provide physical distribution services for MGM product in those territories. As part of the original agreement with Fox, MGM exercised its option to reclaim these territories, said David Bishop, president and COO, MGM Home Entertainment Group.
"Fox continues to be a good partner in the home video business, lending quality, experience and savvy to our alliance. However, the time has never been better for MGM to extend its focus to these vital territories,” Bishop said. “MGM has experienced dramatic growth in the U.S. and U.K., having in this past year alone more than doubled the industry average in DVD sales. We look forward to duplicating that success in France and Germany, as we aggressively cultivate key retail relationships and vigorously exploit MGM's unparalleled library of films."
Additionally, Robert Wittenberg, EVP, Worldwide Sales for the division, has added international retail development to his responsibilities, spanning all territories outside of North America. He continues to oversee all facets of DVD and video sales for the division in North America and serve as general manager of Latin America.
"Robert is a talented and accomplished executive who has done an exceptional job over the last several years in helping drive the retail success of our DVD and video product in the domestic marketplace,” Bishop said. “Similarly, Bruno's contributions to our retail achievements overseas have been nothing short of extraordinary. We expect that through their newfound collaboration MGM will develop a heightened competitive advantage in the international sector."
Wittenberg has been the architect of MGM Home Entertainment's sales force growth and implementation of the division's successful return to self-distribution. He came to MGM Home Entertainment in 1994 from Video Products Distribution, where he served for nine years. During his tenure, he occupied several positions, including Senior Vice president and general manager of the company.
Bruno Carlson, EVP and Managing Director, Europe, who is based in the Company's U.K. office, continues to oversee MGM's day-to-day sales and marketing operations across Europe.
