MGM Announces Full DTV Slate17 Apr, 2007 By: Billy Gil
MGM, which launched a direct-to-video division in February, has announced its first slate of 12 releases.
Among these titles is Audrey Rose, a remake of the 1977 supernatural thriller. Also arriving is the cop-thriller remake Dark Blue, written by John Herzfeld (2 Days in the Valley).
Also slated are extensions of girl empowerment franchises “Legally Blonde” and “The Cutting Edge.” Legally Blondes stars British twins Camilla and Rebecca Rosso (“The Suite Life of Zack and Cody”) as cousins of the Elle Woods character, originally played by Reese Witherspoon. The Cutting Edge 3 is written by Susan Jansen (“Lizzie McGuire”).
MGM also will develop a film version of the acclaimed Showtime series “Dead Like Me.” The dark comedy will be directed by Stephen Herek (Man of the House).
Original films produced in the line will include Captive, a claustrophobic thriller written and directed by Amanda Gusack (In Memorium); the horror-thriller Pet, and the action-packed Angelmaker.
Previously announced titles include the sequels Species: The Awakening and War Games: The Dead Code, as well as the “Stargate” films The Ark of Truth and Continuum.
