MGM Adds Movies to iTunes

11 Apr, 2007 By: Jessica Wolf

MGM has added a slate of movies to the iTunes store.

MGM movies went live on the leading downloading site as of April 11. The lineup features catalog titles including Robocop, Dances With Wolves, Rocky, Mad Max, Bulletproof Monk, Foxy Brown, Child's Play, Pieces of April, The Thomas Crown Affair and more.

The MGM titles on iTunes are priced at $9.99.

MGM is the fourth major movie provider to sign on with Apple's digital video delivery service, following Buena Vista, Paramount and Lionsgate.

iTunes has sold 1.3 million downloads since the site began offering full-length movies, according to Apple.

Still, aside from Disney/Buena Vista content, the iTunes store is dominated by catalog titles, unlike other digital delivery providers including Amazon.com, CinemaNow.com and MovieLink.com, who offer titles for electronic sellthrough simultaneously with their initial DVD street date.

Apple's lack of price flexibility has reportedly kept some studios away from the service for movie delivery.
