9 Aug, 2002 By: Hive News

A memo from Warner Home Video confirms the supplier has assigned retailers to distributors based on “class of trade” starting Oct. 29.

“The Warner Home Video Rental Direct organization will transition to the designated wholesalers,” the memo reads in part “The designated wholesalers will service businesses in a specified class of trade. All Warner Home Video Rental Direct customers will be contacted by designated wholesalers to establish a direct account for servicing of future product.”

As previously reported, the proposal would assign Ingram Entertainment to grocery, drug store, rental specialty and Internet fulfillment accounts; VPD to rental specialists; Baker & Taylor to e-commerce and institutional accounts, including bookstores; and Flash Distributors to the general New York area. The proposal also would cover Warner's distribution deal with New Line Home Entertainment and HBO Home Video.

Alliance Entertainment will service toy, independent music and Internet fulfillment accounts; Entertainment Resources Inc. gets mass merchants and specialty electronics retailers, DSI gets independent electronics specialists and Eurpac is assigned to military accounts.

Warner Home Video Rental Direct will handle rental titles prebooking before Oct. 29 exclusively; those titles include Monday Night Mayhem, Death to Smoochy, Jason X and Brother's Keeper.
