Maya Entertainment has greenlighted its first feature film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The studio will develop, produce and distribute the slacker comedy feature Hollywood Players, written by Joaquin Perea (The Devil Inside).
Producer Robert A. Parada of Streetwise Entertainment and Maya Entertainment development executive Sandra Avila will oversee production, while Maya Entertainment founder and chairman, Moctesuma Esparza (Selena, The Milagro Beanfield War) will executive produce the film.
Hollywood Players, set in East L.A., follows the lives of two brothers who videotape a suspicious transaction that mistakenly gets posted online. Humorous chaos erupts as the whole neighborhood tries to hunt the brothers down to get back the alleged goods.
