Marvelous Support On Tap for Daredevil Release17 Apr, 2003 By: Kurt Indvik
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is throwing plenty of marketing muscle behind the July 29 launch of its theatrical hit Daredevil, said Steve Feldstein, SVP of corporate and marketing communications.
“This is certainly one of our first major marketing efforts of the year,” Feldstein said. “We think this is a huge opportunity for the movie, given the competitive time frame of its release.”
The film, starring Ben Affleck, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Garner and Michael Clarke Duncan, is based on the Marvel superhero created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett in 1964.
It follows the adventures of Matt Murdock, a blind attorney (whose other senses are heightened to superhuman levels) who represents the downtrodden by day, and by night transforms himself into the masked vigilante Daredevil. It grossed $100.3 million at the box office and is slated to arrive in a two-disc DVD set at $29.98 and a single VHS cassette at $24.98. Orders are due June 11 for direct accounts and prepacks; single copies, available from distributors, prebook July 2.
Advertising and promotion will include network and cable advertising, print and online advertising, as well as local radio and TV, Feldstein said.
The DVD will be heavy with features: making-of documentaries; an HBO special on the Marvel superhero; three music videos from Evanescence, Fuel and The Calling; six multi-angle scene studies; and various commentaries and other featurettes. The DVD set contains widescreen and full-screen versions, with English 5.1 DTS and 5.1 Dolby Digital, as well as French and Spanish Dolby Surround sound. The VHS version will include a music video and other features.
