Madrid Piracy Ring Cracked

27 Jan, 2003 By: Jessica Wolf

Officials in Madrid shut down a pirating operation last week, arresting 40 people and seizing more than 240,000 illegally copied CDs and DVDs, the Associated Press reported.

It was the biggest crackdown on pirating for Spain, the AP reported.

Two Chinese immigrants were running the pirate operation and were capable of having produced 60 million pirated recordings and videos on nearly 350 burners, according to the AP. The street value of the seized property was about $2.1 million, the AP reported.
