Lucy Liu Earns VSDA Humanitarian Award2 May, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf
Actress Lucy Liu will accept the Video Software Dealers Association's (VSDA) Humanitarian Award at this year's confab in Las Vegas July 11-13.
The VSDA is honoring the Charlie's Angels star in part for her efforts with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), for which Liu served as celebrity ambassador in 2005.
“Ms. Liu has devoted tremendous time and energy to her role as celebrity ambassador for UNICEF,” said VSDA president Bo Anderson. “We applaud her commitment to bringing relief to the stricken children of the world.”
Liu has also traveled to Pakistan in the wake of the October 2005 earthquake and to South Africa to work with communities battling HIV/AIDS.
She stars in the upcoming movie 3 Needles from Wolfe Releasing that seeks to shed light on the AIDS epidemic. It tells three different stores of people stricken with the disease. Liu's character, operates a black-market blood collection service in rural China.
The film opens Dec. 1 in conjunction with World AIDS Day.
