‘Rocky' Holiday Plans24 Aug, 2004 By: Erik Gruenwedel
On the heels of this fall's NBC prime-time boxing reality TV series, “The Contender,” starring Sylvester Stallone and Sugar Ray Leonard, MGM Home Entertainment Dec. 14 will launch for the second time the Rocky Anthology DVD gift set. Prebook for the $62.96 collector's edition is Nov. 16.
The updated six-disc release features digitally remastered editions in 5.1 surround sound — excluding Rocky V — of Rocky II, Rocky and Rocky IV; 5.1 DTS sound for the original Rocky.
MGM has previously released the “Rocky” titles individually on DVD and as a five-disc gift set in April 2001.
“We definitely timed it to the release of ‘The Contender,' which should be premiering in November,” said Steve Wegner, VP of publicity at MGM.
With the exception of a sixth disc with an A&E Biography called “Sylvester Stallone: The Rocky Road to the Top,” the new edition features bonus material, such as cast and director commentaries, and extended footage.
